The most recent Authorization Acts are the Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act, or FAST Act, enacted December 4, 2015, and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) enacted November 15, 2021. The FAST Act authorized $305 billion over fiscal years 2016 through 2020 for USDOT's highway, highway and motor vehicle safety, public transportation, motor carrier safety, hazardous materials safety, rail, and research, technology and statistics programs. The BIL (formally the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act [IIJA]) provides $550 billion over fiscal years 2022 through 2026 in new Federal investment in infrastructure, including in roads, bridges, and mass transit, water infrastructure, resilience, and broadband.
